Journal One
Rhonda Robbins, Amazon ReviewTo say I found this book intriguing is a bit of an understatement. I found it to be extraordinarily fascinating! It was very interesting to read about the "people" or the Fae - their origins, how they came to be on their island and how they ended up "below". I am very much looking forward to reading the next book!
Becca C. Smith, Author The Riser Saga
“This book had me at page one! …a stunning picture of adventure, suspense, drama and romance. Her strong voice…mixes fantasy with actual history in such a way that keeps you captivated all the way through to the last sentence! Ms. Troop’s debut novel has left me waiting with anticipation for the next book!”
Phillip Spencer, Amazon Review
“This book is a breath of fresh air in a polluted sky. It’s unique, fresh and very, VERY good. I recommend this book to everyone, even if you don’t like magic or faeries.”
W.C. Wallace, Amazon Review
“…the words are well chosen and the images are nicely crafted… what she’s written reminds me…of Jos. Campell’s [sic] 'Creative Mythology…' …I think that Tir Na n’Og succeeds as mythology… I believe this is a first work - and is far better than many other first works I’ve read.”

“Tir Na n’Og: Journal One was a book I didn’t want to put down…”
Danielle Galvan, Review the Book
“…extremely original and well written. It is also very refreshing to read a book on Faeries that is written in the point of view of a Faerie, instead of a human looking into their world…its intriguing plot makes it impossible…to put the book down. The best part of this novel would undoubtable[sic] be the way Marni L.B. Troop has managed to captivate the essence of the world she created and communicate it to the readers of the novel, making it easy to imagine the world she describes in amazing detail… TIR NA N’OG has a…perfectly described world. It is refreshingly original…”
Bob LaPierre, Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society (CASFS)) Book Reviews
“The story has been told before but not with the same verve. I found the characters engaging… and the descriptions of the land wonderful. I am looking forward to the next journal.”
Gregory Mose, Author Stunt Road
“…this is wonderful. Troop has mastered the rare gift of infusing a book with years of research without making the reader feel like he’s just been proofreading someone’s PhD thesis. The story flows, the characters are engaging, and for anyone who has done more than a little casual reading about the mythological traditions of ancient Europe, the cross-references are satisfying. Readers of Graves’ The White Goddess will find plenty of opportunities to smile as they breeze through this thoroughly enjoyable book… Troop has created an approximation of a pre-celtic Irish society, dominated by warlords even as it was guided by a matriarchal religious tradition. In short, she’s recreated an ancient European society much as it might have been (taking into account that we’re talking about fairies here…). The men vying for power would have been aggressive, they would have been warriors,… Troop hasn’t flinched from portraying them as the competitive alpha males they would have been. I can only admire her for it… Set in a creatively imagined yet historically based world, Tir Na N’Og: Journal One is a well-written, enjoyable and erudite flight of fancy into the misty proto-mythic past of ancient Ireland. If that does it for you, buy this book. I for one am looking forward to Journal Two.”

“Surprisingly engaging, Tir Na n’Og is quite the enjoyable read. Written entirely in a series of journal entries by Casey herself, author Marni Troop’s imaginative fantasy tale presents the reader with a compelling portrait of a fantastical society that suddenly finds itself under perilous siege. Faced with the prospect of fading into historical oblivion, the Faerie people are forced to band together in an effort to preserve their beloved island, and Casey captures their dramatic mission in vivid detail throughout the pages of her eye-opening chronicles. Skillfully intertwining such elements as love, heartbreak, mystery, and suspense, Tir Na n’Og is the solid debut of what promises to be an entertaining Fantasy series.”

Marni Troop has yet again brought history to life in her second book! I loved the second one even more than the first and I really loved the first! The story is of St. Patrick and the time when he came to Ireland, but it paints Patrick in a totally different light than the stories I grew up with. I love that kind of thing, when authors put a different spin on what the audience is used to hearing. Kind of like how Wicked made people think differently about the wicked witch of the west. Although in this case it's the opposite, instead of St. Patrick being a great man, he's kind of a jerk! The book is told through Casey the fairy's point of view just like the first book and I didn't realize how much I missed her until I started reading. Ms. Troop has created yet another fantastic read. I highly recommend!

I was hoping this latest installment would be as good as the first and I wasn't disappointed. While it appears the author has a bit of a bias against St. Patrick and the Church (and that is her prerogative), overall, an enjoyable read and very well written. Her interpretation of the De Danaan and Irish myth is rather creative and I have to give her kudos for that. I look forward to the next book.

Once again, Marni L. B. Troop takes real historical events and tells them from a fantastical point of view. Her writing is easy to read, but it's so full of elegance that you can't help but feel like you're actually hearing Casey's voice in your own head. This is creative mythology and fantasy at its best! Now, I'm waiting eagerly for the third book in the series! Hurry up;)
